James Moxley is a photographer, developer, and lifelong creative now based in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Originally from Canada, James spent many years in Nanaimo, British Columbia, photographing portraits, fashion, and brand work on Vancouver Island. In 2025, he moved back to Scotland with his family — a full-circle return after first living there years earlier, when he spent his time rock climbing, motorbiking through the Cairngorms, and kayaking the rivers around Glen Etive.

James studied art at Sheridan College, with a focus on life drawing and painting, before moving into photography, video, and web development. His early creative work included summers as a videographer for whitewater rafting companies, filming clients as they tackled rivers and rapids.

His photography has been shaped by a mix of natural light, portraiture, movement, and atmosphere. After training with internationally known natural light photographer Stanislav Puchkovsky, also known as Sean Archer, James’ own work reached the front page of 500px, gaining more than 18,000 views. He was also invited to contribute a “How I Shot It” article for Fstoppers in 2014.

Outside of photography, James is usually drawn to anything outdoors or slightly impractical: hiking, stand up paddling, snowboarding, skateboarding, trail running, building racing drones, and getting back into surfing whenever life allows.

After nearly a year in Edinburgh, James is currently taking on select photography and creative projects.
